IPadOS
Software
This is a collection of recommendations from a /g/ thread.
- iSH (free, runs emulated alpine 32bit, git works now, neovim struggles, emacs is okay, Haskell fails)
- goodnotes (paid, I wouldn't use that, but at least 1 person likes it)
- Blink (paid (free trial), ssh/mosh client, you can add ssh servers as targets to the files app (very nice), also second screen support)
- files (built-in, offers smb support unlike Android)
- Shortcuts (built-in, can run ssh commands on remote server)
- Wireguard (free)
iCloud apps
Apples own apps (although iCloud based) are not as bad as Androids counter parts. As long as apple does not start scanning your files you should be okay. But if they start you could be in trouble with stuff like hentai.
- Books: you can add pdf files, annotate them and get the pdf out of the app on another device.
- Music: it can store your own music files offline, no internet necessary for listening, though iTunes is probably necessary for the sync.
- Safari: (webkit based, can generate fake iCloud mail addresses for registration, OTP-passwords)
"Non"-apple apps
altstore exists with emulators, that can be side loaded, although I still needed Xcode (free) and an apple developer account (also free)
